The Indian Jewish Heritage Center (IJHC) is a non-profit organization formed in 2010 to preserve and showcase the rich heritage of all four Jewish communities in India: Bene Israel, Cochini, Baghdadi, and Bnei Menashe. Each of these communities has its own unique customs and traditions.
The volunteers of the organization originate from different parts of India, including Delhi, Manipur, Calcutta, Jabalpur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Cochin, and Ernakulam. The younger generation, born in Israel, has now started to take an interest and has joined this wave to preserve knowledge and information that is rapidly dwindling.
The organization has supporters from all over the world, including Israel, India, the United States, England, and Australia. The organization actively promotes Indian Jewish heritage through diverse and impactful programs, including community events, exhibitions, and talks at university campuses and at well-known Israeli institutions, as well as academic conferences, Zoom lectures, hosting Birthright groups, young people’s get-togethers, and dedicated support for research scholars.
In early 2018, the Indian Jewish Heritage Center joined with the Cochin Heritage Center to expand the existing center in Nevatim to include all Indian Jewish communities, not just the Cochin community.
Our Vision
To be the leading center for the preservation, research, and celebration of Indian Jewish heritage, ensuring that the unique stories, traditions, and contributions of India’s Jewish communities are documented, shared, and celebrated for generations to come. We envision a world where the rich tapestry of Indian Jewish culture is recognized as an integral part of both Indian and global Jewish history.
